MIS and My Career

Three Management Information Systems that are frequently used in my job are:

The computer/cash register - which is used to keep all of the information in it including all of the transactions, the money coming in and out of the register, customers information, who's been using the register, employees hours ie.) when they clock in and out, to search for various merchandise with in the company etc.

Another Management Information System used is social media Guess has a facebook page where they post various information about events going on within the company, post ads, various promotions, a style guide, photos and information on the companies points system etc.

A third Management Information System used at my job is the telephone allowing customers to call to ask various questions regarding current merchandise, store hours, place items on hold. Other stores within the company may also call if they are going to be sending us product or if they need us to send them various items. It is also used to contact employees and for employees to contact the stores.

My IS Day

There are two Information Systems I utilize within a 24 hour period on a regular/daily basis.
The first one is my blackberry I use it to communicate through text messaging and making calls. To search the internet, checking my email, to check the weather; I have a yellow pages application that I can use to look up businesses and phone numbers, and storing various information.
The five components of my blackberry are: The software that is provided by my phone company, The computer hardware - which includes a micro chip and the actual phone its self , data- memory, internet, the various apps, and my contact list. procedures- selecting the contact I would like to communicate with and search engine on the internet, and the people and sites themselves.

The second Information System that I use on a daily is my laptop. My main uses for is are to do my homework on it, check my email, do various research on the internet, loading and saving my pictures on it, going of facebook, entertainment such as watching movies or tv shows, listening to music and playing games. The hardware are all the various components and chips in the computer, dvd player/cd player. The software that I use are the various programs that I use such as Microsoft Office, itunes, Adobe etc. The data is that it saves all of my information that I put into my computer such as my school notes & homework, personal letters, music etc. The people are my friends, class mates, family and teachers.

My Educational Achievements

One of my Educational Achievements is last year to took a night course at Georgebrown college in Fashion retail buying. In which you learn the basic principles of retail buying, learn to identify the role of the buyer in a retail organization, and analyze the theories and practices related to the buying process and learn to connect and manage all key buying and planning processes. It took me about a year to complete it and I am now certified in Retail Buying.

My Employment History

In the past I have worked at as a receptionist and administrative assistant.
Some of my duties included:
Provided administrative support to account managers, human resources and payroll/accounting personnel
Created several health & safety Power Point presentations used in plant wide training. Conducted employee health & safety training sessions and new hire orientation.
Performed various data entry duties including monthly and annual labor analysis spreadsheets producing purchase orders and receiving against purchase orders
Greeted visitors and answered telephone calls in professional and courteous manor.
Maintained office and first aid supply inventory.
Occasional shipping responsibilities including small shipments and creating shipping documents.
Created item receipts to receive items against purchase orders as well as entering purchase orders using QuickBooks

I am currently working at the clothing store Guess as a cashier and sales associate; I am interested in getting into the fashion industry so I figure I have to start somewhere, so why not at a company I like.

My Favourite Sustainable and Disruptive Pieces of Technology

One of my favorite disruptive pieces of technologies is my Blackberry. I am so addicted to it. I have to check it all of the time. Sometimes it disrupts my learning because when I get a text message I always want to see who it is and reply back right away; also I'm always checking facebook on it. Anytime forget it at home I feel so disconnected and have to checkout what I missed as soon as I get it back. No wonder why they call it a crackberry!

A sustainable piece of technology that I use on a regular basis is my laptop. It is a sustainable piece of technology because I use it to do my homework, take notes in class, process different documents that I may need, along with allowing me to stay connected with different people etc. I don't feel as if I have to go on my computer all the time or like I'm addicted to it like with my blackberry.

My Personal Career Goals

I am currently a full-time student at Sheridan college in the Business Administration program majoring in Human Resources. My short term goal is to get a B average or better to get into the three year co-op program. My long term goals are obviously to graduate from my program, then I eventually want to become a Human Resources manager or possibly own my own recruiting agency.
